Course Length: 4-5 hours

Lesson 2: MN State Statute 624.714 (Permit to Carry)—Understanding it’s Meaning and Your Responsibility
Lesson 3: MN State Statute 609.065 Justifiable Taking of Life
Lesson 4: Accountability and Responsible Handgun Ownership
Lesson 5: Handgun Components and Selection
Lesson 6: Ammunition Types and Usage
Lesson 7: Firearms Use and Procedures
Lesson 8: Fundamental Practices of Handgun Shooting
Lesson 9: Psychological and Physiological Effects of a Violent Threat Encounter
Lesson 10: Firearm Maintenance and Cleaning
Lesson 11: Handgun Retention, Positions, and Shooting Drills
Lesson 12: Live Fire Exercise
NOTE: A minimum proficiency must be attained during the live fire exercise (80%) in order to pass the course
Basic Pistol Course (Does NOT meet the requirements for permit to carry in MN)
This course is designed to teach students the following areas to become more comfortable with handling a firearm.
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is a blended training course, which means a portion of the course (Phase 1) is conducted in an online environment, that can be completed on your own time. Upon successfully completing the online exam, students will be required to register for the instructor-led training portion (Phase 2), which is to be conducted at your local range with an NRA Certified Instructor. You must successfully complete Phase 1 and Phase 2 in order to receive your NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course certificate.

Completion & Expiration
You must complete all 11 lessons and a final exam with a 90% pass rate in order to get certified as having completed Phase 1 of your training. If you do not pass the exam the first time you will be provided with four additional opportunities to take the exam. Once you pass the exam you will be directed to generate a completion certificate that you can save as a file and/or print. You will use your PIN to register for your instructor-led portion (or Phase 2) of the course on the www.nrainstructors.org website.
You will have access to this program for 90 days from the start of your enrollment date after which access expires.
Registration & Payment
This payment is for Phase 1 only. Phase 1 is the online portion.
The price of Phase 1 is $60.00 and payment is accepted via credit card. After the credit transaction is approved you will be automatically registered in this course and you can begin taking the course immediately. This course is non-refundable.
